Repair and protection of equipment and structures
Belzona’s epoxy repair composites and coatings provide long-term erosion and corrosion resistance for a wide range of marine equipment that operates in a very corrosive environment, from risers on oil platforms to pilings at jetties.
Repairs to pressurised and safety critical systems can be completed with Belzona SuperWrap II in accordance with the ISO 24817 and ASME PCC-2 standards. This wrap is one of the strongest composite wrap systems on the market. It is suitable for pipes and vessels, including complex geometries and can repair thin- and through-wall defects, eliminating the need for traditional cut and weld hot work. The system is suitable for use in a range of climates and service temperatures (up to 150°C (302°F)).
Belzona rubber repair composites, including Belzona 2211 (MP Hi-Build Elastomer), offer outstanding impact resistance and repair alternatives for rubber clad equipment and fenders, eliminating the need for vulcanization whilst maintaining repair strength. Belzona also offers cold plate bonding solutions for heavily worn and corroded decks, ensuring a rapid and safe alternative to replacement.
In addition, offshore wind farms are exposed to significant erosion and corrosion damage from operating in a splash zone environment. Belzona’s range of surface-tolerant materials, including Belzona 1212, are ideally suited to repairing damaged metalwork and sealing exposed or leaking components at the base or in the tower of the wind turbine. Overcoating with Belzona 5831 (ST-Barrier) will also provide a corrosion resistant barrier for equipment operating under immersed conditions or in contact with aqueous solutions.
Repair and protection of propulsion and steering gear systems
Corrosion damage of marine propulsion systems can be repaired using a variety of Belzona epoxy repair composites that halt corrosion on such equipment as jet tubes, kort nozzles and bow thrusters, whilst eliminating galvanic effects by isolating exposed metal.
Materials such as Belzona 1121 (Super XL-Metal), Belzona 1111 (Super Metal) and Belzona 1321 (Ceramic S-Metal) are ideally suited for forming equipment such as pintles, bearing housings and bush seats as they are 100% solids, which prevents shrinkage.
Rudders, stabilisers and kort nozzles suffer severe cavitation damage that Belzona 2141 (ACR-Fluid Elastomer) is ideal for protecting. Additionally, cylinder liners suffering from cavitation can be repaired, without the need for hot work, using Belzona cold curing materials such as Belzona 1391T.
Belzona 7111 can be used when aligning heavy equipment or laying foundations for propulsion systems, on board ships and offshore structures. This specially formulated, 100% solids, chocking/grouting material is designed to endure the physical and thermal shock common to marine environments.
Ancillary equipment
Belzona's metal repair composites are frequently used to repair corrosion and erosion damage on ancillary equipment on board, such as heat exchangers, valves and pumps. For the best results and protection, a wide range of epoxy coatings are available that offer erosion, corrosion, chemical and temperature resistance.
Our hand-and spray-applied internal epoxy coatings for tank lining allow even large tanks to be quickly protected. Many of our coatings are approved for use in contact with potable water.
