Belzona 1593

High temperature hand-applied epoxy coating for internal lining of equipment operating under continuous immersion conditions, which provides outstanding corrosion resistance.

Belzona 1593

A 2-part hand-applied epoxy coating designed to provide long-term corrosion and chemical resistance to equipment operating in continuous immersion at temperatures up to 160°C (320°F). This coating has a long overcoat window and its cold curing mechanism with full in service cure reduces downtime and ensures rapid return of equipment to service.

This 100% solids coating is easy to mix and apply without the need for specialist tools, ensuring a simple and  safe application in confined areas.

Key benefits:

  • Outstanding corrosion protection of high temperature equipment, suitable for continuous immersion in water and hydrocarbon mixtures up to 160°C (320°F)
  • Excellent chemical resistance against a wide range of chemicals including hydrocarbons and amines
  • 2-coat application without the need for flash blasting between coats
  • Very light colours allowing easy inspection in dark vessels
  • Application and cure at room temperature - no hot work involved
  • 100% solids material allowing it to be safely applied in confined areas
  • Reduces downtime due to its innovative post-cure mechanism activated at service temperatures - no separate post-cure needed
  • Withstands steam-out process up to 250°C (482°F) and rapid depressurisation
  • Excellent adhesion to metal surfaces and high retention of adhesion at elevated temperatures

Applications for Belzona 1593 include:

  • High temperature epoxy coating for oil and gas production equipment such as separators, flare knock-out vessels and evaporators operating under immersion
  • Corrosion protection against a variety of chemicals in high temperature equipment including boiler vessels, condensers and heat exchangers

What is a high temperature epoxy coating?

A high temperature epoxy coating is an industrial-grade, two-component lining engineered to provide corrosion protection under elevated temperature conditions, including continuous immersion. Unlike conventional epoxies, these systems are formulated to resist thermal cycling, permeation and chemical attack in demanding environments such as oil and gas production vessels, boiler systems, condensers and heat exchangers.

Can high temperature epoxy coatings be used under continuous hot immersion?

Yes, high temperature epoxy coatings are specifically designed for continuous immersion in water and hydrocarbons. Belzona 1593 was tested in-house according to NACE TM0174 and passed six-month testing without exhibiting any rusting or blistering at 160°C (320°F).

What surface preparation is required for Belzona 1593?

High temperature epoxy linings should be applied to blast cleaned surfaces. Once loose contamination has been removed and the substrate has been degreased, an abrasive should be selected to give the necessary standard of cleanliness and a minimum depth profile of 3 mils (75 microns). The substrate should be blast cleaned to ISO 8501-1 Sa 2 ¹/₂ very thorough blast cleaning; American Standard near white finish SSPC SP 10; Swedish Standard Sa 2 ¹/₂ SIS 05 5900.

What equipment is typically lined with high temperature epoxy solutions?

In oil and gas and petrochemical industries, aggressive corrosion is a significant concern. High temperature epoxy linings are commonly applied to the internal surfaces of carbon steel equipment including pipework, vessels, tanks, and pumps to protect against corrosive media and extend service life.

Is Belzona 1593 available in a spray applied version?

Yes. Belzona 1523 is the spray applied version of Belzona 1593, designed for application to large surface areas. Belzona 1523 has a lower viscosity formulation, allowing it to pass through airless spray pumps easily and efficiently, making it well suited to large scale industrial lining projects.

Both Belzona 1523 and Belzona 1593 have been developed with field application in mind. Neither product requires specialist application equipment such as flame spray or metal spray systems, Belzona 1593 can be applied by brush or simple hand applicators, while Belzona 1523 is compatible with standard airless spray equipment commonly available on site.
